Refugee Work
Additionally, Susan has a current educational role in
working with refugee and asylum seeking children, young people
and families and is experienced in understanding, from a
therapeutic view, the implications of a residue and legacy of
trauma, which may be implicit for many of those who have arrived
in the UK , fleeing political or religious persecution. Susan
currently has a role as supervisor within a therapy service
specifically addressing the needs of asylum seeking and refugee
status persons
In 2006, Susan read a short paper as participant in a workshop:
‘Researching Migration and Mental Health’ Compas-University of
Oxford Centre for Population Studies, entitled ‘Women, Terror
and Survival - in a Patriarchal Society’ based on her
experiences of working with the residue of the atrocities of the
Balkans war.
She is familiar with working through an interpreter when
necessary.
